Just Another Manic Wednesday

Starts with a PPTA breakfast, Daniel's shoes and mine. I've dressed up for a departmental meeting day which turns out to be interestingly boring. The more things change the more they stay the same. I don't listen but I do contribute to make it look like I'm participating. But, truth is I've got too many other  important things to organise. The department can run without me...especially because today we're generalising into the future trying to prepare ourselves for NCEA assessment changes. I'm pretty sure we'll end up teaching much the same as usual. It takes a lot of imagination and enthusiasm to make systemic changes. I've got enough changing in my life. In the midst of it all I reply to a UPS text and pay $3 for a parcel Kahu said he is going to get from the States. I don't give it much thought.

Several times between meetings I go to site and am late back. I never seem to catch up with myself. Kahu gets a job- two nights a week collecting glasses at a bar. He's stoked, so am I because it's easier to get a job once you've got one. It's a start. I get an email from Cyprus which tells me an entertainment company is billing my credit card. Visa confirms it's through the parcel text. That easy. They cancel my card. I get home earlier than usual but head back to meet the buyer of my leftover Tasmanian Blackwood. A woman after my own heart, she has roped in an offsider with a van. She's going to use the wood to renovate her kitchen floor. I unpack an old sock of Kahu's. Towards the end of packing up the house I threw everything in. Maybe I was hoping to find the other sock. More of a memory mothering a small child. Hard to let go. When I show it to Kahu he's bemused and puts one of his manky teenage socks alongside. Meiosis, the miracle of cell division.

It's Polly's 30th birthday and the department gets on board. Photoshopped pics of Beyonce with Polly's face covering the walls. ...
