Another Teacher Only Day

Days without students are great but there's less flexibility; we're expected to be at meetings all day. Today's meetings are a tedious echo of yesterday's NCEA proposed changes. They take us a step back to the origins and philosophy behind it all. Yawn and double yawn. The Ministry of Ed's videos has put together a series of videos which would probably entertain a gnat but not a staffroom of critical thinkers. Another day of not wanting to engage because I've got more pressing priorities. Again, I need to be at the house for input so I rush down and back and arrive late to every school meeting. I'm not missed, blending in and barely noticed. Signature style, flying below the radar. I get some messages and skim read. I ring one number and when I hear a foreign voice, tell it very firmly to f off. I assume it's one of many scam calls I've been bombarded with lately. A few minutes later I get another call. It's the boss of NK Windows trying to organise a meet up with a technician coming for a service call, cancelled several times. I fly out the door and realise on the way the guy I told to get lost is the guy I'm going to meet. I'm embarrassed but he sees the funny side. And he does an awesome job on the latches- they make opening doors a pleasure. No more blocks of wood with rocks on them. 

I'm late for the last regional PPTA meeting of the year. I've been chasing my tail all day. I'm in contact with Kahu and Greg who are driving up to Leithfield in Greg's van with a trailer to collect the more cumbersome items of furniture. So I try to rush dinner thinking I will finally catch up with myself. But I don't and take it as read that I don't need to do everything. I drive to College Ave to put out the bins. It's a sight for sore eyes to see the dining table, sofa, wooden bench and the ER11 chair in the house. I sit on the sofa to celebrate.
