Having thought about it, processed with Nicki, and Anjie adding her two cents worth, I decide on a last minute splash back change. I can't use the Avocatus as the new cut for the island won't leave a big enough piece. So it's tiles. I call into GBC on my way to work to collect a sample of the bench top stone. I'll need it for matching- there's three shades of white with the walls and cupboards. Hmmm. A very helpful guy finds what I need and I talk him through the kitchen island, showing him Anjie's pics. Repetition can't hurt. We have a good chat about it and I leave feeling confident they will get the right up/down. It will be set in stone once it's done. Another case of a delay being a good thing.
A quick trip to Ideal Electrics then Next Dore where my across the road neighbour, Dan, works. I rule out tiles as an option- they're not even close to a colour match. Dan suggests stone. I drop in at College Ave mulling it over. He's right. I call into Pete and suggest a rerun of the wood option for the laundry, cancelling the stone here would ease the budget. He's not keen; he doesn't want to fit the sink so tactfully suggests fewer elements help visual consistency. Hannah is going great guns restaining the Perrin and Rowe loo seat. So I call GBC and extend my kitchen stone order to include the bench top to the bulk head, cost overrun echoing in my head.
Back to teaching. Thank goodness for a trainee but the Tuesday double on a hot afternoon stretches everyone's patience. The kids shut down as minutes crawl slowly past. Courtney enthusiastically proposes detentions if they don't bring their books next time. Eyebrows arch but no-one says anything and we stagger out the door at 2:30. The barometer keeps rising, the house is quiet. Gideon's wet tile sing precludes entry. Ian has put levelling compound in the laundry, shut the inside door and put a big sign on the outside door. No entry. It's time to give the house a rest. Taylor's Mistake's calm is perennial, no signs here, just seagulls and water which takes my breath away.
