Flu- Second Wave

The flu I thought I was getting over comes back. In a weaker form but it slows me down. No bike ride today but I keep doing, albeit carefully. I visit Nic and Craig across the valley- we can see each other's houses. Theirs is the other side of the tennis courts and bowling club. Nic is still in her pj's and Craig's in gardening clothes. He's just lost his father and, as always with a big loss, is still taking it in.
In the afternoon I drag Kahu over to the building site. He finishes filling nail holes and I garden. My main mission is to get up into the roof space to see how much room is up there for moving around. Chiefly, for getting from one side of the ridge line to the other. It's a long house so it would be a clamber and when I look along it seems to close off towards the dining/living end. I don't go too far so am not really that much more in the know. Kirk doesn't want to put another man hole in the garage end as he can't see where the wires and pipes are. But in the future I'm going to need access.
Greg turns up with his weed eater. He puts plastic loops on the blades to prevent stones getting caught up and spinning uncontrollably into the house. As he's skimming the north side this does indeed happen and a stone goes shooting into the Goodlands' kitchen window at an oblique angle. Very bad luck. Grant is very nice about it, warning me to watch the double-glazed, expensive to fix windows on my house. He also says they've got no excess insurance. Phew.
Home and an early night to fight the second wave. Unfortunately it's not that simple with Covid and countries like the US, Brazil and India and suffering. Covid is a distant story here, except for the absconders from quarantine, of which there has been another last night.

A person in their 60s broke a window and escaped from an Auckland isolation hotel last night and knocked on residents' doors near the facility during the middle of the night.

It is the fourth escape from isolation facilities in a week.

Air Commodore Darryn Webb, head of managed isolation and quarantine, said police were investigating after the person left the Waipuna Hotel and Conference Centre in Mt Wellington late last night.

Webb said the individual had allegedly knocked on three residents' doors while outside the facility.
