Eating Through Winter

I get back from a ride up the hill to a flurry of messages. Castlewood Rest Home where Lionel has been taken for respite so Nic can recover from a vertigo episode she was hospitalised for. She's the key person in Lionel's world at the moment and when her health fails he needs care. A rest home is care he doesn't want but at 100 one loses choices. And I forgot to meet the whirlwind woman from Interior Effects at the house. First meeting fail for the build. Sorry and oops.
I settle at the dining table to do marking. Not my favourite activity but I'm a teacher. Needs must. There's stacks of food in the fridge and Chris beats a path from his desk to the kitchen and back. He dons an item of outdoor clothing each trip. Winter weather + working at home = office pyjamas.
During lunch, cos I'm eating solidly too, the fridge is even closer for me, the mechanic rings with the good news that my car is ready and the cost is under $1,000. I'm grateful. I quite like Auntie Cora. At 320,000 kms, I'm hoping she's got a few more left in her. Kahu comes on an errand jaunt with me which takes in the garage, where I drop off some fruit cake, the wall paper shop, Pete's work shop, where I drop off more fruit cake, and the build.
At night we all settle down to....more work and more food.
