Filling the Holes

I have a slow start...domestics to catch up on. First stop, Resene Paints. I need to choose an exterior colour. It doesn't take long as I already know I want a version of white. I take a white Winkleman tile and Mandy gets out the paint chart. Half Thorndon White it is. I've already chosen Flaxpod for the roof and match Pohutakawa for the front door.
Feeling relieved, I buy some filler and a filler spreader for the nail holes in the fascia, and climb up to the scaffold. It's too sunny to stay there long and I accept Nicki's tour invite of her site. Both houses have a roof. I'm jealous. Otherwise they are in much the same phase as mine: framing, some outside green wall cover, bare concrete floor. While I'm there the guy who did Nicki's dig out arrives. there's an issue with the old garage space at road level which they filled in. It needs more soil as it's sinking a bit.
Ajay and I look at each other. "I think I used to teach you," I say. Turns out he was in my first Year 11 English class in 1998. I remember that lot. They were sassy and not that interested in Of Mice and Men or School Cert. A class of characters. Likeable rogues. Self-confident Rory who put his success at speeches down to perspective, "I imagine I'm the chef and the audience are vegetables I'm going to chop up." Rory also had a comic gift and was entertaining, speeches or not. Ajay's now father to four, and in the construction/paving game. Takes a certain kind of nouse but it definitely doesn't require School Cert English.
I cool off at North Beach then get back up the scaffolding. Over the evening I hone my hole filling skills but it takes till nearly dark to get round the house.
Way to spend a weekend. Yeah right. I'm going back to school tomorrow for a holiday.
