Another cool summer's day in the south. When I go for a swim, there's no-one at the lake. Grey weather puts people off. I stop in at Denny's to buy apricots for preserving. They're damaged by the storms with bird holes, priced at $2 per kilo. The label reads "Kissed by God." Perfect. I potter at the house getting not much done and feeling low energy. I'm on my own and struggling to motivate myself to pack and sort out the house. I make myself go through Tui's bedside drawer which I have had several forays into. There are a few prayer books, some more church stuff and letters she kept, including when she travelled to Europe in 1957 just after she'd met Lionel. I don't read any but they are precious and I'll store them carefully. I've kept old boyfriend correspondence so I get it. John Dainty, my friend from days gone by, who randomly turns up in my life- Utah, London, anywhere in New Zealand, texts to tell me he's turning up again. This cheers me up as he helps sort stuff, in practical terms and by talking through things. His philosophical take highlights the positive in a balanced way. I can do with his energy today. We spend the evening making apricot marmalade.
