Sanding the Floor

The first day of term is never pretty. I hate getting up at 6:20, it's ridiculously early. Then I have to get used to the kids again. They're a mixed bunch. My classes feel familiar but I've got two periods of relief. First one, easy, second, a random Year 10 and they're feral. I refer one within five minutes and the other takes help from management. Stressful and kids I don't want to see again. But I'm sure I will. Teaching is not your average job. Half is imparting knowledge, half behaviour management.

After school I check in on John who has a helper, Sean. He's cheerful and they're both working hard. John with a noisy machine and Sean is on his hands and knees filling in gaps with a brown substance. I've elected to spot fill rather than flood fill which would see filler covering the floor then sanded down. It creates an even finish but since my planks fit well, we can get away with doing holes in the wood and the odd gap between planks. It looks like a hard job. Monotonous but you get to see results. On the way home I check in with Neil on shelf brackets, no progress, and to Interior Effects about handles. I pick up kitchen cabinetry handles. One more job ticked off.
