Pools of Oil

I miss our early morning meeting. Just can't stretch that far. And to be honest I won't have missed anything but the company of my group. We're casual and usually ditch the brief for a good chat. I think the others take it more seriously, we question what we're being asked to do. Feels like there's a lot of jumping through hoops to tick boxes. A waste of time. I get busy with trying to catch up, all day I'm chasing my tail. Our seniors have had enough of assessment this year. We have to keep each other motivated. But we have fun. In the afternoon I take my Year 10 chatty class to a Year 13 Drama assessment performance. It is supposed to be a treat but the play is absurdist and even I don't get it. The kids behave well considering how boring it is. I go to sleep and they laugh at me when we get back to class.

Back at College Ave, I catch up with John as he's finishing his first coat of oil. It's smelly but captures the grain, movement and warmth of the wood. One more coat, tomorrow. Kahu and I tidy up outside and water Kirk's grass seed. He's growing the berm. We need to move the dirt pile before growing anything. I drop Kahu home and am late to the PPTA regional committee meeting which ends in a Thai curry. I'm exhausted.
