Just another Manic Friday...usually wind down, ease into the weekend day. I've only got two teaching periods and none today as the seniors are on exam leave. I should be marking their papers but I'm busy. I drive across town early. The dream I had last night that I didn't make it in time, still fresh in my head. But the gate is open when Murray Hewitt's men arrive. They're here to put the toe kicks in for the kitchen before Ian and the girls lay the wooden floor. It will save time and money as they won't need to lay floor boards where the cupboards and island are going. I show the guys around and chat as they measure up and take levels. The floor is 4mm out along the wall where the cupboards are going so they plane the toe kicks. Rene arrives and we all look at the state of the kitchen. One of the electric cables is apparently under the dish washer. Hmmm. Sortable some time in the near future.
I return for Friday morning tea. Unmissable and it's one time during the week when we're relaxed and chatty. Lots of laughing, personal things come out in the wash; we get emotional over the chicken nibbles and hummus. I get some work done then go back to square up the electrics with Rene. We're doing revisions as we go, it's easy to get confused. And I am. On the way home I drop in to see Scoff about door bells and buy bathroom heaters. One less purchase to make. They keep coming. Finishing is expensive grand design home shows seem to involve blow outs. I'm holding my breath somewhat but there's not a lot I can reduce. How does it happen? Probably because there are many small details which remain hidden till the last. Lessons learnt but I'm not planning on doing this again.
I stop at the One Stop Deck shop to check out products to put on the purple heart. Needs to be done before the wood silvers off. That's Kahu's job but he doesn't know it yet. I stop in to see Neil to collect the lamps. They look amazing, way better than the cheap reproductions of today. Neil's a potterer and has just finished a stool made of spare parts from a car he used to race. Impressive, the cam shaft is the pole up the middle. It's a red letter day at Interior Effects next door as I pick up my front door handle and insist I want to pay on the hardware I've picked up. I've asked before but today I insist on handing over some dough. By the time I get home, I'm done. I've ticked things off though. Time to relax Covid style, Friday work drinks with Chris's mates at home.
