Let us keep close together not far apart- a non-Covid/Covid whakatauki

Waiho i te toipoto, kaua i te toiroa       Let us keep close together not far apart

Today Aucklanders are told they have another week of lock down. They're over it and I can't blame them. Small businesses are suffering. Covid feels a long way from here, touch wood. But the runaway spread in Melbourne is a salutary lesson...it only takes one.
Today is laundry sort out day. I make pick up the phone in my free time. The floor tiles could be touch and go as there weren't many when I bought ones for the bathroom. But there are enough for the laundry. I ring Pete with trepidation, thinking he might spit the dummy. But he's more than happy to swop the bench top for some shelves. Bench top half sorted. After school I drive to Designastyle to confirm and check out the Winkleman tiles. The offending outsider is the encaustic in the middle. Frankie is not sure what the shades will be as the ones on the board are not made any more and will have to be specially done in Melbourne. Next I head off to Pete's recommended bench supplier, O'Briens, on the other side of town. I look at the options and ask for a quote. Theirs don't rate next to the stone ones I've been looking at for the kitchen and it's hard to revise down. A southerly rolls in and the temperature drops. The rain comes down. I drive back across town through rush hour traffic to the Granite Benchtop Company. I rang this morning but haven't heard back from Anthony about whether there is enough left over from the kitchen stone slab for the laundry. He's been unloading a container all day and the office woman talks me through the process. I show her pics of the laundry and she agrees to a selfie. She's salt of the earth and reasonably interested. She's also a captive audience and after a day in the office enjoys a chat. I leave feeling like the weight of last minute changes is lighter. The laundry is going to be all good. Only a few dollars more.
