Spring feels later this year. The cool, grey weather goes on and on and on. I'm teaching Romeo and Juliet to Year 10's who are 14 to 15 and have by and large lost the art of language because a machine thinks for them. Shakespeare has always taken kids out of their comfort zone but our kids seem so complacent. Language is generated for them. I wonder when the worm will turn. I can't help but push against their lack of enthusiasm. Shakespeare is a gift, so is education. Facebook is the opiate of the masses. I'm pleased I grew up with the wonder of stories, even stories I didn't understand.
Lance paints on. He feels like part of the family now. But he's never going to catch up with Kahu, height wise. I've got the walk in wardrobe on my mind. I need design help, but first I need to know how big the space is. I hand Kahu the measuring tape. On the way home we call on the iron artisan whose workshop sits behind Interior Effects. I need shelf brackets for the laundry and kitchen. When I ask to take a blog picture I show him pics of the 22 College Ave lead lights in the skylight and he draws a bracket design which mirrors the lines of the window. Ka pai. The old windows I looked at every day in the old house inspired windows for the new build. Echoing their shape in subtle design elements, the iron artisan reimagines the old in the new.
