It's All About the Deck

I bake a carrot cake and get it to site just as the boys are taking a break. It's the first carrot cake I've made since the 1980's and the recipe I google is virtually the same. Still tastes good and there's still finger nails in the grated carrot. The boys are getting on with the framing and Kirk drives up to Chris's with Josh to collect the purple heart. It's fantastic to get it out of the garage. Chris and I unloaded it at the beginning of February and it's been taking up space, and smelling, not sure of what, but perhaps chemicals, since. Kirk has a squeeze getting the trailer back down the lane but eases over the kerb with a few centimetres to spare on the other side. Chris is happy.
I drive over to pick up the morning tea left overs. When I get there an abashed Josh tells me that the trailer he was in charge of putting on the ute, came off in the middle of town. The chain held but the trailer smashed a light on the ute and there was damage to the trailer as well. Could have been much worse.
The verandah foundations look wide, especially on the north side. They look like they will take up even more of my garden space. I leave feeling conflict. I wish I'd looked at the plans, or something. I drop in on Pete and hand over some carrot cake for him and Hana. They're busy in the shed. When I pull up at Chris's I phone Kirk to discuss the verandah. Upshot, meeting on site, 8am Monday. He says yes, I can change it. I'd like to replace some of the steps with planter boxes. Green to break up the expanse of wood.
Kahu has spent the day working on his Geography assessment. Writing takes time.
