Ceiling Roses and Sundry Errands

It's grey again but I see a rainbow out of the window as I surface for the day. I drag myself to the English Department office for a marking meeting. With no kids, we've got time to discuss papers. A luxury in the teaching world. We're on "holiday", or, as I often call it, non-contact time. Two weeks to catch up on health, marking, planning.
I drop in on Tamati and Kath who are about to put the ceiling roses up. Tamati asks if the centre of the chandelier will fit into the middle of the rose. For a heart stopping moment I doubt it. There's an overlap but when we put the two together it looks fine. So many moments like these in building.
I lunch at home then drop in to the Granite Benchtop Company. I need to finalise the choice for the top of the L-shaped bench. Anthony gets out a big slab of the white I'm looking at and puts it next to the Avocatus. It works. I'll have it for a long time so it needs to. The only thing I'm a bit dubious about with engineered stone is how hard it is. But I need to finalise a choice. Done.
I pay off the Winkleman tiles hoping I haven't forgotten any other items I've paid a deposit but not the full amount for. I don't need any costly surprises now that I've finalised the mortgage amount. Back at 22 College the ceiling roses are up and look great. They lower the ceilings...it's a perception thing.
A bike ride up the hill nearly finishes me off. The bug in my system makes me feel so tired. I collapse on a kitchen stool and give Kahu cooking instructions for dinner. He'll be going out in the world with a few domestic skills. At this point he has a major meltdown when he discovers one of his newly pierced ears is infected. We get there in the end. I put manuka honey on it and try some light treatment, promising pharmacy help tomorrow.
Covid news- Victoria, Australia is going back into lock down. Some shonkey quarantine practice with guards sleeping with their charges. Here we have about 20 cases, all from returning Kiwis. No community spread so our lives go on as normal.
