Day 50- Plaster and Whānau

I meet with Pete, the plaster art exponent on site. This is the delayed meeting from late March, the week following lock down. In the meantime the windows are in and Pete gets a better idea of what's going to work aesthetically. I've pushed my panic over costs aside, slightly. My solution, half my teachers' retirement savings. So the extra plaster work is on the table again. We go over where and what. It's a finishing touch and the house will look so much better for it.
In looking up I realise the dining room wiring is off centre. Rene arrives to discuss fans and bathroom switches and we agree to review it tomorrow. At Pap I organise my teaching work and more of the house. Coming back to the classroom is going to add stress as I won't have the flexibility of popping in and out, and making last minute changes.
I meet Kahu on site and he carries the rest of the demo wood to the front. He's big and strong- bigger than when he left. Filled out and slightly taller. We drive to the beach and his wider whānau. The new baby, Sophia, Despina and Cassie. It's good to catch up. So much has happened and after school starts I don't want to visit again till we know there's no Covid we can pass on.
Nicki's birthday is next. Very important. I give her some pork bones I've bought from Verkerk's factory shop, a fantastic source of discount meat. They've been open all through Level 4- one small business that has. The food market was dominated by our Australian owned supermarket duopoly. We leave ourselves wide open on some economic fronts. But petrol reached the lowest price I've seen for years, $1.51. It's back to $1.62. Still cheap for us.
Covid cases- 0.
