Earth Day is an annual global event, observed on April 22, that celebrates the environmental movement and raises awareness about pollution and ways to maintain a clean habitat.
We forgot Earth Day in lock down. It was yesterday. Worth noting that it is the 50th anniversary of people speaking up about pollution and our future on the planet. 1970- 2020. What has changed? The earth is more populated and more polluted and we are beginning to realise how much, as we look out our lock down windows. As activity has ceased, animals in the natural world have made their presence felt - fish are returning to Venice's canals, a pair of whales were filmed playing just off the Mediterranean coast of southern France, a herd of mountain goats roamed through the streets of Llandudno, Wales, wild turkeys on a school campus in Oakland, California. And we can breathe easier as cars stay at home and factories remain closed. The lungs of the planet are clearing and Gaia is heaving a big sigh of relief.
I forgot a Zoom meeting and joined late. At the building site. The lack of formal work place structure means some responsibilities drop out the bottom. Tant pis. Life goes on. There's nobody to tell me off.
Covid figures for today are good: 3 new cases.
