Day 17 / Day 3- last day of my 50's

While I'm dying my hair I make a sign to send to Kahu in quarantine. Keep your spirits up buddy because the days will pass.
I'm easing into a mellow lifestyle, while the school holidays are on. It's the day before I turn 60 and time to tidy up the greys. I'm not ready for that one yet. In fact letting it go during isolation, it's turned out not that grey on its own, but there's sand from sea swims and dust from the house build and the dreds were starting to look and feel unkempt and feral.
It's one of those beautiful autumn days, season of mists and mellow fruitfulness. Chris stains the deck. I do more gardening and listen to Saturday morning with Kim Hill. Time passes slowly, one of the gifts of the lockdown. There are two more deaths, elderly people with underlying health issues, whose families couldn't visit them in their last hours and won't be able to hold a funeral ritual. We have 29 new cases, 20 are confirmed, 9 probable. There is one more cluster, in an aged residential care facility in Christchurch. 15 people are in hospital, 5 in intensive care, and one is critical.
What we are doing here in New Zealand is working. There has been a lot of talk of people going to holiday homes over the Easter break. Overall not many. Most are following the rules and it's working. The tricky part is what to do next. I'm looking forward to seeing Kahu again, it's a strange homecoming for him it could get weird in there by himself. But quarantine is essential if we are to eliminate the virus and maintain a covid-free country so that we all have the freedom to get on with our lives appreciating as we never have before the ability to move about and make choices on how to spend our time and who to spend it with.
