Tuesday Out of Order..Ka kite Boys' High

It's a cool day....autumn is here. Following a slowdown, the building is about to swing into action. I arrive after school to hammers banging and saws whining through fibro cement board. The dust is dangerous and I keep an eye out for builders wearing masks...it's not my job to remind them but I do. The house is starting to look like a house. It's exciting. After sleeping overnight on the floor of my room I feel more connected to it. It makes me realise how much I'd separated emotionally from the old house. Especially after Kahu left and things stopped working and there was only one chair and the tiny kitchen table.
My body temperature drops after my swim. I eat leftovers in the English office with the heater on. Tonight is my last PTA meeting in the Boys' High staffroom. Awesome lead light windows on the landing as well. It's the AGM. My role as Te Kura Trust rep and as vice chair of the PTA is acknowledged with a peace plant. I'm probably going to kill it. I'm hopeless at looking after indoor plants. There is a spirited discussion about whether to fund a sculpture for the new quad. I'm 100% behind it but the funding request is large and proves a stumbling block. The vote goes in favour of funding but at the end of the meeting there is no agreement on how much. I make a French exit. We're all so preoccupied by the issue we wander off with few formalities. I step through that beautiful wooden door with the neo-Gothic arch for the last time as a parent. Ka kite ano.
