Stuff you find when you are checking supplies |
I find an email on my phone from yesterday which says Kahu can be brought out but I need to reply as soon as possible. I think I've missed the window. The situation keeps changing and it feels like the noose is tightening. Uncertain times. The number of cases in New Zealand has increased to 53- 14 new cases. Jacinda Adern unveils a four-stage threat plan to tackle the virus and upgraded our response to stage 2. We are urged to be careful around people who are older or with underlying medical conditions. Mid afternoon I'm feeling worried about Kahu. He's not even thinking about the virus. Different head space.
I drive via Ambrose Heal to 22 College Ave. Pete is on his way to golf but notes I've touched a pen and his diary. He's antsy about the act I went to Womad. He should be antsy because I'm a teacher. My workplace is a petrie dish of germs.
Chris meets me at the house and we set about measuring the lengths of walls to calculate how much skirting I'll need. I'm getting to know this house intimately. My brain is dead at the end and I let him off measuring the architraves. I'm filling nail holes when Greg turns up. Another walk round. And some head scratching. Greg's had shoulder surgery but soldiers on. We also get on the verandah roof to sort a water proof covering for the skylight. I need to protect the newly installed insulation against impending drizzle. I fill more nail holes when he leaves. I have to get the high bits under the eaves while the scaffolding is still up.
It's cool at the beach and when I walk into the water another woman out in the weather in a big coat gives me a big smile. A fresh end to an exciting day. Lol.
