Feels like it wasn't too hard. Jorge answered an ad in Marketplace, and Tina on Trade Me. A few others did too, some definitely people I wouldn't want to live with, and others with a good vibe. I pick people closer to my age. In my ad I write that I'm in my 50's as I assume people wouldn't want to live with someone in their 60's. On paper anyway. Jorge seems personable when he visits and comments that I'm the first to offer him a cuppa. Isn't that what we do? I ask a few personal questions but not his last name. Bertie takes me to task, but he didn't seem like an axe murderer. He visits on Thursday and moves in on Sunday.
Tina answers on Trade Me by e-mail and her tone is enthusiastic. She's going to be working down the road for Harcourts, asks lots of questions and is organised. I can tell by her tone she'll work out. So different to living with a teenager.
Bertie stays over on Friday, I have a dessert/movie party on Saturday, Jorge arrives on Sunday...life changes. Bertie helps me sort the shower door which has been catching for a while. Ian the tiler was going to come and fix it but his daughter's got Covid so he'll be isolating. Kahu's 20th birthday is Wednesday but he can't make it to dinner. No drama, it's the first I've missed with him but it won't be the last. There are bigger dramas: the Ukraine war, and the Covid induced storm in a teacup at Wellington. And so we go on.
