Lionel's in the house when John is around. He tries on some clothes we are sorting out and which I'm attached to- Lionel's camel hair dressing gown, a golfing cap and a tie that's been around since childhood. Then it's time to get serious. Nic wants a Smart tv because, since we cancelled Sky, we can't get TV reception. Makes us realise how much we rely on TV for chilling out and general company. So we drive to Queenstown. The sky is lapis blue, the air is still and the Remarkables look remarkable. Nic, John and I know these mountains from childhood. It's quieter since Covid because Queenstown's attractions attracted so many international tourists, but the local economy has taken a dive and the place feels eerily quiet. I like it. We lunch then Nic and I drop John and his pack off on the road to Te Anau. Te Anau, another place we all call home. Then Nic and I go shopping, taking our time to pick over underwear sales, and find a new TV. We finally get one at Cromwell. A swim in the lake and I'm done for today. No house stuff...a day off.
