Girls' day out- after Donna visits to finalise the advertising for the flyer for the house, Nic, Lynette and I jump in the car and drive to Omarama. I'm in the back seat trying to read. I've always been prone to car sickness and stagger out of the car at the Wrinkly Ram feeling very queasy, but manage to eat one of their home cooked meat pies. Driving over the dirt road to the pinnacles is like skating over marbles. The scenery distracts me from the intensifying nausea.
We've all driven past the road down to the cliffs on trips through the Mackenzie. Lots of times. So this visit is overdue. And it's worth the wait. Bigger and more variation of colour than I expected. And looking fragile. I look around and assess the earthquake risk. We'd be well buried if the earth shook. But it doesn't and we walk out in one piece.
Google info- the cliffs were created out of layers of silt and gravel deposited by ancient glaciers around 20 million years ago. These layers were compressed, then up-lifted by geological activity in the area, then as the high points began to be eroded pinnacles were left behind.
Arthur and June make it back from Christchurch with the L.J trailer. They've had a good break and June loved my new whare. Said Kahu was proud when he showed her round. I help clean but Arthur spends ages meticulously getting every speck off. In the meantime I sweep the garage floor and wipe down surfaces.
