Moving and More Arguments

Favour for a friend...test driving a used car. Lynley and Keith are in Wellington and are looking at a $26,000 hybrid purchase. An eye-watering amount as far as I am concerned. I pick up Chris who knows a lot about cars and we do due diligence. A pleasant drive around Mt Pleasant. Then I take him to The Tannery for a coffee. Their tiles are striking but my bathroom is more tasteful than their monochromatic in your face restroom. Back at Chris's we move Kahu's stuff so Chris can reclaim it for his office. More light, an open vista, mountains, trees, people, cars, birds, insects. Considering he's at his desk most of the day, this could save his sanity. We load up the kauri dressing table Uncle Trevor restored in the early 2000's. Another nod to Uncle Trev and his recycling of wooden furniture and vintage cars. We squeeze it in and I stop on the way home to pick up all remaining random objects from Anjie's. Lauren's there and we climb up to the stinking hot attic. There are a couple of backpacks I had forgotten about and a clutch of family trees Lionel and Tui had worked on. These are precious documents I had forgotten about. Safe in Anjie's attic.

At College Ave, I wake Kahu who has overcome the light surfeit with blinkers. Working together doesn't go well. He ends up walking off to his friend, Sam's. Leaves me to get the dresser out myself. I stagger along the path and drop it the last half metre onto the garage concrete. I'm incredibly angry and incredibly disappointed. I drive to Cashmere where Chris is characteristically sanguine. The nearest to a parent he has been is with Kahu. It's always easier when they are not yours. Chris decides to vacuum and make the room office-fit. I go for a swim in the freezing cold at Taylor's. Calms me down a bit but not completely. Two red wines later I'm breathing easier. Chris and I chew the fat over dinner. I head home with more stuff but my room still looks like it did two weeks ago. Stuff everywhere, lots of it.
