Back to Work

I've got a day to do house stuff. Kahu too. We drag ourselves out of bed early to race across to meet the broadband provider, Enable. When they don't turn up I call and find out they're coming tomorrow. Hard to believe. But not really. I've tried to change my phone company once before and failed. I reschedule for the afternoon. Then Kahu and I go and find Lance who instructs Kahu on cleaning the deck and rings Paint Lab to line up what we'll need- a lamb wool spreader, paint brush, tray, decking oil. Neil remembers me and gives Kahu more instructions.

Back at College Ave, Kahu washes the deck while I go to school to mark formal writing with Kendra. It's easier to do in pairs. This year the kids are noticeably behind where they usually are. I return for a visit with the Enable technician. The mystery as to why it's so confusing is solved when I ring Kirk who thought he is meeting them tomorrow. God in Heaven. I ring Rene to get a handle on the electrics. We organise to meet on Monday. Without Kirk. This should be a lot easier. There's a clash based on how Kirk sees the job. Today positioning the plastic box on the outside of the house is my main concern. Another aesthetic plastic intrusion. Unexpectedly, Ian and the girls turn up. They're on fire having sold a glue supply issue. Having run out, they've sourced a new product. The girls drive off to get it.

Kahu and I tidy up and retire to the garage to measure up the leftover purple heart. I put it on Marketplace a month ago and was inundated with interest because I priced it too low. This time I'm better organised and more savvy, but I want it gone. We argue and I'm exhausted by the time we leave. We stop at Chambers Art Gallery where Rebecca is exhibiting her resin babies and horses, and Julie has pencil sketches. Women artists in my life who produce work worth showing and selling. Kahu bumps into Megan, his Boys' High art teacher, and understands a reason for sticking around socialising.

The day ends and I'm so tired I can't think. And barely pack.
