It's senior exam week which means Kahu can sleep in and I only teach my Year 10's. This gives me time to do more sums. It's not as bad as I thought. I find more money I've paid Kirk, but I wish the overall picture was better. Sometimes the more things change the more they stay the same. Today I know more about laundry bench top width but mine still needs finalising. I meet Pete on site mid morning to decide how much extra width I need. We measure, leaving me time to think about implications for the width of the laundry sink. First world problem, nevertheless I don't want to stuff it up. We push the washing machine into the laundry to see how it fits. Fine as it turns out. Something going my way. Pete inspects the Tasmanian Blackwood in my room and tells me I need to restack it- each layer at right angles to the ones above and below to increase air flow. Don't think that's going to happen but I nod sagely.
After school the boys are on site...like family returned. Josh is doing the 'shit jobs' but he doesn't seem to mind, and Cam and Jamie are tidying up round the foot of the verandah so they can frame for a concrete border. I need to mow the lawn without bashing into the timber. I pick a bunch of flowers for Jamie's wife, he's hoping it will help him get lucky tonight. Priceless. I have a door handle conference with Cam, inspect the painted nails, the Kiwi way of making black nails when you can't buy them, then head to Resene to check the paint colour to match the stone for the kitchen island. Too dark? The joiners have rung to ask what colour I want to match the other stone...another white on white issue. Lots of potential for error.
