Weekend Break

I'm tired and sleep late. My goal today is to get the old oak bedhead bought on Marketplace, out of the school caretaker's shed and into Chris's garage. I borrow the school van, an ancient vehicle which is a health hazard as it funnels exhaust through the gaps in the back door. I've used it to move bigger items when I left College Ave, and have a stash of pillows to plug the gaps. With Sherry gone there's lots of storage in the garage. Mission accomplished.
I head into town and check on rebuild progress. There are some cool murals and lots of people milling about. Later I meet friends who relocated to Melbourne after the quakes. Ally is Kahu's godmother. They have a house in Mt Pleasant with retaining wall issues, and are thinking of returning in the next few years. No place like home. They've also found out they have to work five years in the lead up to 65 in order to get the pension.
I head to Taylor's for a swim. It's been an overcast day, not cold but pleasant. There's me, a couple of surfers and a few seagulls.
