Virtual morning briefing at 8:30. I set up my computer then make breakfast while I'm listening. Systems have been set up to track student computer access and engagement. We'll spend more time on administration than teaching. I'm asked to follow up three students from a form class without a form teacher but I can't remotely access the school system. I e-mail IT. Still doesn't work. I mark Year 11 assessments then do a video class with my Year 13's. The first one to check in says, "Miss, I didn't think you'd be able to do this. You're so bad at technology." Showed her. We have a good chat, though some do not participate either visually or by mic. I leave the call remembering why I love my job. The kids are awesome, it's about relationships.
But teaching this way is stressful. I have to give feedback on senior assessment which can be very time-consuming. Inefficient. I garden at my place then do more work till 7pm. It's endless. And not that satisfying.Kahu is halfway through quarantine. He's not looking so good. 14 days on his own...long. New Zealand has a Covid milestone, more people have recovered than are known to be still infected..more than half our total cases. There are 20 more cases. Top officials and ministers take a pay cut, and Donald Trump moves to cut US funding of the World Health Organisation.
