Diary of a House: Kahu's Birthday- 2nd March

An early start for a 7:45 meeting. And it speeds up from there. I meet Kirk on site and he has a list of questions. My head is spinning. Rene is on site with Nicki's nephew Reuben to start pre-wiring. And I have to choose bathroom tiles. Nicki says I need to know what size they are to get the spacing right for the shower mixers. She suggests Designa Tiles so with my brain in overload I drive there after school. As luck would have it Nicki pulls up at the same time. I can't believe my luck. I get out clippings for the main bathroom which is going to look more traditional...black and white but not too black and white. The young woman at the desk looks at the pictures and pulls out tiles. It doesn't take me long to choose floor and plan for the walls. Greater relief. And the ensuite is going to look much the same. I'm over choosing. Get me out of here. While Nicki gets her plans out I call Kahu on Messenger. He looks the same. Still my boy. Hasn't booked air tickets to New York for Easter becuse I haven't signed permission. In all the house chaos, I'd forgotten. I have to hang up and manage so I can talk Nicki into coming to College Ave.
As luck would have it Kirk is there too. We go through the list and more. I decide I'm going to get a bigger kitchen window. It's going to annoy me forever and a day otherwise. We measure up and factor in the size of the tile I've just chosen. I spray where I want outside taps and mark where the shower mixers are going to go. Kirk looks at the back verandah and comments he could have made the ceiling higher. I don't want to know. I would have loved to have them higher.
I drive to the beach and contact Kahu again. And Tom and Tammy. My phone fades so I have to say goodbye. I've also got to sort the form them get to a quiz evening. Too many things to do.
