Moving the doors from 22 College Ave to 21B Upper Chrichton Terrace on Llew's truck |
When I take the phone off flight mode at Christchurch Airport it's 8am there's a missed call from Kirk and several messages from Kahu, and my Ola app is not working. The house issue is relatively easy to sort, Kahu's is not. He's faced with having to leave El Dorado and come home. I have to get to school so I cadge a ride with another Ola passenger.
I manage to follow up on Kirk's queries and call Kahu and talk to Tammy before first class. The kids are up and down, there's an air of uncertainty.
Kirk wants the interior doors. He drives the ute up the hill with a heavy trailer. It's too difficult to back into the parking apron so he blocks the street while we load up. There's only one dog walker affected and she's happy to wait. The boys are surprised at how heavy the doors are. Especially the double wardrobe doors. I'm thrilled I have professional help and lots of muscle power to move them, I've organised it twice on my own. The garage feels spacious and I feel like I'm carrying less around.
Kahu calls at the tail end and I swing the phone camera around so he and Tammy can get a picture of the neighbourhood and be part of the door move. We talk for a while. We're on the same page to keep Kahu where he is. I don't feel anxious about his health. He'll be as well looked after there as here. Fingers crossed he can finish his school year.
I celebrate the door move with a swim then go to a planning meeting for a May Day union get together. When I get there it's been cancelled, as is the function. The new normal.
