The builders of the 30's would be speechless. In 1939 the house was built on piles over bare ground. Post earthquake we are engineered for more shakes- my land is TC3 with increased flooding vulnerability. A decent amount of liquefaction bubbled up in February 2011 and sat under the house till the 2014 EQC "repair" - removal method, students with trowels and buckets to scrape. I crawled under with the inspectors in 2010 for a look but, even with the removal of two small truck loads in 2014, I would not have ventured back. Too claustrophobic.
Back to 2019 and the 500 mm dig out is filled with gravel. Another layer is added above ground and compacted.
